In Malawi, Africa, Theresa Kachindamoto, from a lineage of Ngoni chiefs, became a senior chief and decided to tackle the issue of child marriages prevalent in some regions. With the backing of Malawi's President and First Lady, she managed to abolish child marriages, leading to a constitutional amendment in 2017 banning marriages under the age of 18. This change has had a profound impact on gender equality and the lives of young girls in Malawi.
