David Tan, a toy maker in the Philippines, has been receiving a flood of orders from pet owners who want to memorialize their deceased pets with stuffed toys or 'plushies'. Tan and his team use photos of the pets to create life-like replicas using synthetic fur and airbrushing to recreate their colours and markings. This process is different from taxidermy as it doesn't preserve the body of the animal. The cost of each plushie is around 3,500 pesos (US$ 65), which pet owners consider a worthwhile expense for a lasting memory of their beloved pets.
