Thomas Maxwell was pronounced dead by Clearwater Fire and Rescue Department medics who were later suspended from providing patient care and placed on administrative duty. More than 20 minutes after the medics pronounced him dead, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy noticed Thomas breathing, and he was rushed to the hospital. Thomas survived and left the hospital last week. Chief Scott Ehlers apologized for the actions and inactions of his crew and said that they were suspended because they did not perform to the standard of care that citizens expect and are entitled to.
