The Mayor of London has launched a £3.5m initiative to provide free meals for children from low-income families during school holidays and weekends, in partnership with food charity The Felix Project. The emergency funding is expected to last 12 months and will be distributed to charities and partners in London. The initiative is estimated to provide 6.9 million additional meals. More than two million children receive free school meals in the UK, according to the Department for Education. The scheme will begin in time for the Easter holidays and will expand The Felix Project's ready-made and cook-at-home meal provision during school holidays.
