‘Laughing But Serious’ Event Raises Money to Help First Responders Manage Effects of Stress

Melissa Salinas, who lost a friend to gun violence in 2001, shared her story at a fundraising event at Joe’s on Weed Street in Chicago. The event aimed to provide police officers, firefighters, and other first responders with free training on how to cope with stress and trauma in their jobs. Salinas' company, Authentic Revival Movement, provides training that combines psychology with yoga to help first responders re-train their stress response and remain calm in stressful situations. The event featured speakers sharing stories of adversity and comedians who provided some light-hearted moments. Proceeds from the event will fund at least three free training sessions.
