Soccer player Merih Demiral started a fundraising effort for earthquake relief in Turkey and Syria through his professional esports team, Team Demiral. He received support from various big names in the soccer world such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Harry Kane, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Eden Hazard, and Kevin De Bruyne. These players donated signed jerseys which will be auctioned off for the cause. UEFA, Premier League, and Canadian national team player Sam Adekugbe have also pledged support for the disaster relief efforts. Sam Adekugbe's club Hatayspor withdrew from the Turkish Super Lig season and one of their players, Christian Atsu, is missing.
