Retired Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton is partnering with the non-profit organization RIP Medical Debt to eliminate $10 million in medical debt for Colorado residents. Inspired by his friend Ryan Jumonville's similar initiative in Florida, Helton aims to alleviate one of the leading causes of bankruptcy in the U.S. RIP Medical Debt, founded in 2014, has already paid off over $10 billion in medical debt for 6.7 million families. The organization focuses on helping individuals who are below the federal poverty level or have medical debt constituting 5% or more of their annual income.
