The CDC has recommended that all Americans aged 6 months and older receive updated COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, following FDA approval. These new mRNA vaccines are designed to target the omicron subvariant XBB.1.5 and have been authorized for emergency use in children between 6 months and 11 years, while those 12 and older can receive them under full approval. The recommendation aims to better protect against evolving strains of the virus, especially as hospitalizations rise and new variants emerge. Despite broad support, one panel member voted against the universal recommendation due to limited data on certain populations like children and infants.
