Victor Shaw was shocked to discover that his 78-year-old father, Alex Shaw, had been scammed out of nearly half a million dollars. Despite the grim prospects of recovery, ANZ Bank surprisingly reimbursed the entire amount, acknowledging they could have done more to protect Alex, who was later diagnosed with dementia. Victor has since taken legal steps to manage his father's finances and hopes that sharing this story will raise awareness about the vulnerability of the elderly and those with cognitive impairments to financial scams.
